THE HIDDEN NETWORK
Uncover the Science that Keeps Our Region Clean & Our Future Sustainable
A free 3-session indoor STEM & Sustainability program! Dive into the science behind our local sewer system through hands-on activities, focusing on environmental protecting and careers that support a more sustainable future.
About the Program
“The Hidden Network” introduces participants to the unseen systems that keep our communities healthy and sustainable.
Through interactive challenges and build-based projects, participants will learn how wastewater is managed, treated, and transformed. A hands-on opportunity to explore pathways into green technology and environmental careers.
Program Sessions
Session 1: Sewer System Simulation
Simulate blockages in mock sewer systems and learn about proper waste disposal
Session 2: Wastewater Treatment
Build water filtration models to understand how sewage is cleaned.
Session 3: Resource Recovery
Simulate biogas to see how SacSewer recovers valuable resources from sewage.

The Hidden Network was a hands-on youth STEM and sustainability series created by HUMANBULB in partnership with SacSewer. Through engineering challenges, wastewater simulations, filtration experiments, and infrastructure design activities, participants explored the hidden systems that protect public health and the environment.
Students learned how sewer systems work, what causes blockages, how wastewater is treated, and how environmental engineering connects to sustainability and community infrastructure.
The program combined hands-on STEM learning, teamwork, and real-world career exploration in environmental science, engineering, and infrastructure systems.
